10 Tips To Make Your Website More Effective – Without Breaking The Bank

With the power your website holds in today’s world, it’s a no brainer that it should be one of your most perfected assets. We have a feeling that continuing to grow and improve your business may be one of your goals for 2019, so don’t let a poor user experience on your site bring you down.

So New Year, New Website? Not exactly.

Here are a few of our effective web design tips that don’t have you starting from scratch.

  1. A homepage redesign can be a good place to start. Your homepage is typically one of the most viewed pages on your site and it needs to serve its purpose for visitors. Whether it serves as the place that delivers content to your visitors or brings them closer to the page that has the content they’re looking for, the homepage serves a vital purpose and should assist in achieving the website’s primary goal.Web Design - Web Development - Website maintenance
  2. Use well-designed and written headlines and copy. Using relevant short headlines, paragraphs and bullet points make scanning your website easy and help with SEO, which is key to getting your site noticed.
  3. Make sure you’re responsive and mobile-friendly. Did you know most people use a search engine from their cellphones? [Hubspot]. And for all the searches being done on mobile, Google displays mobile-friendly results first. Don’t fall behind because your site doesn’t provide an optimal viewing experience.
  4. Use appealing calls to action. So you got someone to your website, great! But without direction, they won’t know what to do next. Make sure each page has an appealing call to action so visitors know what to do next.
  5. Keep it simple. Don’t be afraid of white space. Too many photos, videos and blocks of copy on your webpage can be overwhelming and lead a visitor to lose interest.
  6. Optimize your page speed. Every extra second that your website takes to load, is time that you could be losing a visitor. Avoid reduced pageviews, customer dissatisfaction and dropped conversions by making sure your site speed is up to par.
  7. Add social proof. Testimonials or displaying the logos of companies that you’ve worked with is a good way to show visitors that you are a reputable company with a valuable product or service.
  8. Improve your website’s navigation. Your site’s navigation not only helps visitors find what they’re looking for, but it also helps your search engine rankings. Any effective web design should have easy navigation. Pro tip: don’t use generic text, be descriptive. Also, use words your visitors would use and don’t use internal lingo or jargon.
  9. Have a well-designed team page. People want to know and trust you before they buy from you. Give them a glimpse of who’s behind the scenes and what the company culture is like, so you can make a connection from the get-go.
  10. Add internal links. Never let visitors on your site hit a dead end. Always have a link to either a contact page, another internal page, a sign-up form, etc.

BONUS TIP:  Never stop testing! Just because you’re at a good place with your website, doesn’t mean things don’t change. Never stop testing the site and checking for dead links, broken redirects, slow loading times, etc.

With all the rapidly changing digital trends, your website can easily feel old and outdated. While a redesign may not be ideal, don’t let your budget or resources prevent you from making other changes to improve your website. We’d be happy to take a look at your website and evaluate its current performance and recommend any ways to optimize it.
